High density polyethylene (HDPE) geomembranes provide an impermeable barrier against a wide range of solids and liquids. They exhibit excellent chemical and UV resistance,impermeability, and high yield and welded seam strengths, which is widely used as the liner.

Extrusion laminating is a non stretchable and non oriented flat extruded film produced by rapid cooling of melt casting. There are two methods: single-layer casting and multi-layer co extrusion casting. The production process is as follows: first, the raw materials such as high-density polyethylene particles, color masterbatch, and carbon black are proportioned in a certain proportion, stirred evenly, and then fed into the material bin. Then, the raw materials are heated and melted into a fluid through an extrusion machine. After being squeezed by a screw, they are extruded at the film lip and pulled out by a steel rod or rubber roller for molding and cooling. The gap size of the pressure roller is the thickness of the geomembrane, and finally, they are pulled and cut into rolls. The advantages of extrusion laminating are high production efficiency, adjustable between different thicknesses, low cost, high glossiness and good flexibility of the finished geomembrane, with a minimum thickness of 0.2mm. The disadvantage is that the thickness is not uniform enough.

The production process of blow membrane is a three-layer co extrusion blow molding method. The production process involves feeding raw materials through three heating screws into the blow molding machine head, where they are heated and melted into melts. These melts are squeezed out of the machine head under pressure and form a cylindrical shape at the position of the machine head. Compressed air is blown up by the mold head to form a certain diameter of film bubbles, which are then pulled up and cooled by a traction roller to form a geotextile film, and then curled and extended downwards, After traction and segmentation, the geomembrane is unfolded and finally rolled into a roll through a film spreading frame. The advantages of blow membrane process are uniform thickness of geomembrane, high tensile strength, and stable quality of membrane. The disadvantages are high production cost, no price advantage, and lower glossiness and elongation than extrusion laminating.
